That is a fine looking TC sidelock. It will likely shoot a patched round ball better than anything else, that is what they built it for. I still have my Lyman Deerstalker Hawken in .54, it shoots Maxis about as well as balls. Note the Lyman peep, which I can no longer see through. If any are interested, I might be persuaded to part w it.

Just today I acquired a T/C Hawken 50 cal. Always wanted one. Early 70’s model and only fired 4 times. I was very surprised to see that the ferrules, forend cap, buttplate, patch box and maybe the trigger guard hand grip are made of bronze and not brass. Was that usual back then? IDK? If I draw for muzzy elk in CO it’s going along. It’s never tasted blood.
