Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

Montana Wolf - The waiting is over!

No wolves spotted today. We quit counting the coyotes at 15. I have never seen a place so infested with song dogs in my life. Watched some other hunters chase them a lot today, but wolves are our main focus. Not enough time remains for the distraction of coyotes. Normally I would be taking their furs to the stretcher, but not now.

Tomorrow is our final full day, with Tuesday being a half day. Could us one more lucky break. Watched the elk feed out of the timber this evening, so hopefully the wolves will be somewhere nearby when the sun comes up tomorrow.

Been a ton of fun. Would like it to be two tons of fun, if possible.

Wish we had coverage there so I could give updates. Just not an option. And, would not have had too much to update today.

Tired as heck. Hitting the sack early tonight. Hope to have pics to post tomorrow.

So, I thought you guys would get a kick out of this (I sure did). A few days ago, Ben Lamb sent Randy and I an email that went as follows:

"Not sure if you guys have been in touch w/ Mike or Nathan, but it might be a good idea to find out which specialist works the region you're hunting (if you haven't already). Seems like they'd be in the forest, above the elk. It's safe and secure.

Good luck, love this adventure; keep hunting! :)

After we killed the wolf, this was my response:

Oh, by the way……………..there are two new wolf specialists for our area.

Critter,
Just wondering if you took any measurments? I would like to know what a mature wolf like that measures from bottom of the chest to the top of the back. Just in case I have to make a quick call on yardage using my crosshairs.
Thanks, Garan

Well, first off, this is a younger wolf. They definately get bigger than this but I took the measurement for you and from bottom of chest to top of back on this female is 15". I'm sure an older male would be like 18"+.

Should give you a reference though...

Great story and pics, congrats to critter!!
Can't wait to see the show and I'd vote for full body with the coloring on that dog.
Hope to see a 2 wolf show though, good luck to Randy!!!

Congrats on a long and adventurous hunt! I hope you get another chance to fill your tag Big Fin. Glad to see a much needed successful hunt come together OYO!

Again; congratulations!!!!!!!!!! You gave us the full run down of weight size and color.
"How does she taste"?:D:D

Critter, Fin has the Howa Handshake. I guess you can't take that line so here's one for ya.

UH- UH- HOOOLLLWHAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :hump:

Nice work! They have announced they are going to have a wolf season in MN by limited draw this coming fall when the pelts are prime. I hope I get drawn!

Nice job guys!
Critter- I'd say you have some good hunting memories from 2011/12 already, congratulations. Call it karma or whatever, I think you deserved that.
Glad Randy was a part of that also with all the effort he put into the wolf issue.
Nice job again.

I'll throw in a vote for rug instead of a full mount. Maybe even just get it "garment tanned".

European mount the skull for sure so folks can see it's teeth.
