I have had zero luck in the draws so far. I am thinking of applying for cow tag 799-00 in Montana. I live in western ND so it wouldn't be that far away if I drew the tag. Main question is how is the hunting on the public land there for cow elk? I usually backpack hunt so I'm not worried about the terrain or getting one close to the vehicle. I would probably hunt later in the year because I like chasing muleys with my bow. Anyway if anyone familiar with that area wouldn't mind letting me know if it is an actual hunt or more like a hiking trip with a weapon that would be extremely appreciated.

Regards, Branden

I have several friends who hunt down that way for cows on public land and they have been successful in the past harvesting critters. I think you will run into a lot of competition but it can be done. Not unlike many districts in the state. Good luck!
