Montana Conservation Project on the CMR- Now July 15th

For the 7th straight year, we're gonna be pulling fence on the CMR (June 24-25). To date, we've removed about 22 miles of fencing in this area of the refuge and this year I'm hoping to knock down another 3 miles of fence. We usually organize it as a two day project and campout but if a person can only make it one day, thats perfectly fine.

Generally, we meet about noon, get to work, and break out to set up camp about dinner time. This year we'll have an assortment of elk, deer, bison, and mountain lion to grill up around the campfire with free beer of course. On Sunday morning, if there's still work to be done we tackle that and then are usually headed our separate ways by noon. It's always a good time surrounded by a great group of people. Been quietly traveling from Alaska or Oregon to hunt the CMR for years. Have not heard of this effort before. We have a commitment this year but I’m penciling it in for next. Is it likely to be the same time frame?

Give or take a couple weeks. I always try to do it in June before we get into too much fire danger.

Always a good time (2x). I will try to make it, but will be dependent on finding or not finding a specific critter I am looking for as well.

We usually donate to a rancher in the area or volunteers have gone home with a few before. As far as I know, the pile in that photo is still there. I don’t think the CMR has come back and grabbed them yet.

Was there this past week floating the breaks. Its super green everywhere. We actually saw very few animals from the river and I believe its because it is green everywhere and they don't need to be down by the river right now.

It may very well be my fault. This is the second time I’ve scheduled these surveys and gotten rained out.
