For the less informed what is it?
There are many variations. Basically it's shooting a milk jug at different distances. Mostly with hunting rifles and gear you would use in the field. Some timed events some not. mtmuley

For those of us that are lactose intolerant, the version I know didn't end well.
A group of my friends used to get together before deer season and do a version if this before it got Youtube famous. Our version was basically a way to know your limitations of shooting at a deer. Everyone would get a jug at 100, 200, 300, 400, etc. and you’d get one shot at three different shooting positions. Start at standing move to sitting or kneeling and then prone if you hadn’t hit it yet. This was always shot with deer rifles no target or varmint rifles. It was pretty casual but it did point out the people who knew their rifles, or at least knew how to shoot.

Never did the challenge but the kids sure enjoy shooting them filled with any given food color dyed water. Gives a nice visual confirmation on the hit.
I haven't used milk jugs in years as I've got too much access to pretty nice ranges with good steel target options, but I'm in favor of any realistic field practice/competition.
Steel is logistically easier for regular competition, but milk jugs do have a few advantages. They're essentially free, they don't really have fire danger associated with them, and you can just set them on the landscape without needing hanging systems.

I know nobody likes this guy but this was an interesting exercise.
I have shot steel. Milk jugs positioned at various ranges whether up hill down hill or on level ground at various ranges would be a challenge. Impacts are easy to spot and set up is fast. Just pick them up when done. mtmuley

I usually go out and set up several milk jugs in varying positions to shoot a few times each year. Like was said above its cheap, provides good visual feedback on hits, and it's fun. Been doing that since I was a kid

I learned to shoot with milk jugs and use them to confirm my abilities from different distances and positions before season every year. It’s every bit as fun now as when I was a kid. But like @mtmuley said, pick them up after.

We always did paper plates or aluminum pie plates to test our maximum effective range. Milk jugs seems more fun think I'll try it with the boy and his new 243. Think I'll dye them red or something to make them easier to see.
The first video with Mike the marine was brutal. After scoping himself in the warm up he couldn’t get his head off that stock fast enough.

One of the few videos I stumbled across recently, As soon as I heard what cartridge he brought I had a good idea how it was gonna go. As expected. Lol.

One a day? The version I saw with marine Mike was 100 shots at varying distances within 600 yards.
Cold bore does seem to make more sense.

I like it. You could set up a good milk jug course on some BLM or forest service pretty easily and mimic some realistic shots.
