Kansas rut

Typically the rut in Kansas is not hot until the first or second week of November. I believe the best hunting starts around Halloween and then the next two weeks following. It varies from place to place a little but you can count on that time every year. Pre rut has definitely started.

My way to determine how hot the action is for the deer is to listen to the traffic reports on the way in to work. First deer v vehicle reported last week. One this morning. Starting to get the dancing feet warmed up, at least, out on the woodlots and prairies.

I always liked to be eating Halloween candy on the drive up. Heavy walking and looking phase in the first week of November with occasional chasing. Bucks will come to calls.

Ditto Southwinds comments. Bow hunted my Kansas home state for over 30 years and I would agree that his time frame is spot on. As anything else it can vary a little depending on the elements but hard to go wrong during that time. Happy hunting! :)
