Sometimes they come up with a product that functions great and the Eagle Claw Inline Ice Reel is one.
I tried one at our ice derby and fell in love with it. it never froze up and its great for fishing deep and getting your bait down quick. the line twist is virtually eliminated and i use bobber stops to know when I'm at the depth I need to be and don't have to worry any more about them getting caught in the level wind.
