Got it done in Indiana on Friday morning. I called one in for Wes at 7:30am, moved to the top hay field and shot mine around 9:45am. . .We are ready for Kansas and Nebraska now and will be rolling West in the early am. Good luck to all.

Congrats! Nice bird. Good luck with the western circuit.

Still waiting to get my IN bird. Out 3 days with no luck. Day 1 struggled to even hear Tom talk and only saw 2 hens all morning. Day 2 started off wrong when before 6AM plopped my backside under a tree only to find out tom and lady were roosted overhead. They were gone before even had my gun in my lap. Did see a few more hens feeding that day. Day 3 looked like might be a good day. Tom started sounding off on the roost, lighting it up and cutting us off when called. Within 5 minutes of him hitting the ground Mr. Yote spoiled it all. Managed to stalk one strutter later but lost him. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Nice job! I think a lot of these are going to start showing up on here.

Nice work Rut!!! And good luck in KS and NE! Have an awesome trip!
It's wet and soggy - tough conditions out there

I have a SD tag and plan to shoot up there
in a week or two! I saw this weather coming and
Stayed home this weekend.

Congrats! I'm thinking next spring may be the year I pull the trigger on a turkey trip. Good luck!

In Kansas now. Lots of birds, but nothing on the ground yet....
Big Fin may be onto something...might switch hats for this evening!!

Just a quick update. . .Kansas public land turkeys are TOUGH!!! We left IN Sunday At 4am so that we could do some scouting/hunting that night. We arrived and checked into a hotel, changed clothes and headed out. We watched several birds from the wrong side of the fields till dark. We always say we are not shooting any Jakes, and normally we stick to it. . .but after a few days of seeing tons of hens and jakes, Wes couldn't take it and blasted a jake on Tuesday evening. I had been seeing some nice toms, but, they didn't want anything to do with the Avian X dekes or anything I was saying to them. . I was feeling a little bummed. I made the decision I wasn't packing in the dekes anymore and wasn't going to call either. . just decided to hunt them like I do deer here, just sit and wait. On Wed evening I had made a plan, I had watched them pass by this one small green bush every evening for 3 nights and decided that would be my last stand! I got back to the area around 4pm and set up my hide. . It sure felt like I was on the surface of the Sun for the first 2 1/2 hrs that I sat there. At 6:37pm I heard a gobble behind me, then heard the hens. . .I turn so that I can shoot behind me ( now I'm ready I think) I glance back out to the field edge and see 2 stutters with 3 hens headed my way. . I turn my focus back to the field where I can actually see the turkeys. . 10 minutes go by. .the hens are going crazy at each other, then it all breaks loose. . .2 more hens and 5 jakes enter the field from behind me. . .now we've got a show!!! The 3 hens make it past me bringing the strutters with them. . .I wait for all the jakes and hens to clear. . .slip the safety of and Boom the 3 1/2 in # 5's are down range. Birds are scattering and the big tom is laying in the dirt. . . and to his right and behind a jake also!!! I'm disappointed that I shot the jake, and thought that I had let them all clear. . I was wrong...only a couple of pellets in his head and neck, but that was enough. I was tagged out. I didn't hunt Thursday morning and stayed to get stuff packed up. . .as luck would have it, Wes ended up killing his second bird that morning. We had a great trip and learned a lot again this year. We never made it to Nebraska, maybe next year?

Carrying two birds back to the truck from back there is a little bit of a chore. Congratulations.

The bird numbers are down in Nebraska from a couple years ago, but still plenty here. It took me longer to get one this year than any of the years that I have lived here. Looks like you had a good trip.

you are telling me. . .I should have taken some pics of that !! I had both birds on the pack. . . no way to get them balanced out very well on a day pack. . .I was a hot sweaty mess for sure. ( just glad I decided to carry the pack that night to hold my water bottles) I took a few breaks on the way back to the truck for sure.:)
