Grand Junction CO pack horse question.

Three of us will be doing a do it yourself elk hunt in the grand mesa NF this archery season. Anyone from the grand junction area or western colorado used any packing services to get an elk to a processor. There is an outfitter in our unit that we have contacted but the quote he gave us seems a little steep.
Other question is..is there a rule in colorado that you have to use a licensed outfitter for all hunting related services like packing an elk down to a processor. Saw on another forum that if you used an unlicensed "guide service", you could be fined and your animal confinscated. Anyone know if there is such a rule??

The short of it is the packer/outfitter needs to be licensed in the unit tonoperate there. Therefore hire only those who are. You can check with DPW for outfitters that are licensed and pick from that list.

An outfitter/packer can not cross into another outfitter/packer's area.
