If you worry about the public backlash of selling public lands, you bury some accounting mechanisms in the House Rules package that makes it easier to sell the lands and hope nobody notices. That is what they did, and Bishop authored the language. Under that language, you they no longer have to account for revenue losses when selling Federal lands. In the past, they had to make it up via increased taxes, etc.

Only the first day of the new Congress. Brace yourself folks. Gonna be a rough ride.

Sick to my stomach doesn't begin to describe how I feel right now.

When both houses of Congress and the Executive Branch are controlled by one party it's a recipe for disaster. Today is day 1 of that disaster.

Wow...I know, lets all pin our hopes on a Trump veto.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

We'll see real quick here how accurate his F&S article was or if he even remembers what he said.

Bishop and his R crew have to be some twisted SOB's to scheme this type of stuff up. These people are the absolute lowest form of bottom feeders. Pure evil with no good intentions.

This is just one issue.
Way bigger things to be addressed than this.
Besides, everybody's gonna get a tax break, business will flourish, markets will soar, jobs will be created, the 2'nd Amendment is safe, immigration will be controlled...........
America is on the verge of greatness now that great minds are in charge of it all.
Libtards need to calm down.
It'll all be OK.

Bishop is still revered in Utah. I'm considered a commie on the Utah-based forums for being against the aptly-named Rob and his land grab. Crazy how people's perspectives can vary so much.

Uhhhhh........ You realize you just described the last 8 years, don't you?

Feral horses, ESA, Fuel loads, etc, everything gets tied up and nothing is being accomplished. The whole system is drowning in bureaucracy. Enviro groups gathering wealth and power with their lawsuits. I'm thinking they just got sent a message.

Thanks. Like Daines, it looks like Zinke may make suckers out of a lot of sportsmen/women. Hope not.

It's not like everyone thought he was perfect. Most believed, and still believe, he was a better outcome than most of the real options floated by the Republicans/Trump.

I AM SHOCKED AND OUTRAGED THAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE DOING EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO!!!

This is the opening salvo.

It will not end until Congress is flipped. It will not end until politicains understand that their actions have consequences.

It will not end for 2 years. The number of outrages will continue, but the collective response will wane as people tire of fighting their government for their basic freedoms.

Taxes will change. Business will always go bankrupt. Markets will always crash. Jobs will always be lost...

But access to hunting and fishing grounds only ever goes one way... down.

To be so short sighted to think about the now and not the future is to shoot your children and grandchildren in the foot

GovTrack has a little better break down for HR 5

"The new rule dictates that any bill provision, amendment or conference report that conveys federal land "shall not be considered as providing new budget authority, decreasing revenues, increasing mandatory spending, or increasing outlays." The Congressional Budget Office currently estimates the cost of federal land conveyances by calculating the loss of revenue from activities like drilling, logging and grazing.

Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), the ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee, called the change "fiscally irresponsible." CBO's cost estimates, he said, are already too low; in the past, he has pressed for CBO to also include the lost value of recreational and ecosystem services (E&E Daily, Jan. 20, 2016).

"The House Republican plan to give away America's public lands for free is outrageous and absurd," he said. "This proposed rule change would make it easier to implement this plan by allowing the Congress to give away every single piece of property we own, for free, and pretend we have lost nothing of any value."

The divestment of federal land was part of the Republican Party's 2016 platform, and some conservative lawmakers favor handing some federal land to states and local entities. The debate is particularly active in Nevada and Utah, where the federal government manages large areas."

Yes - Republican 234, Democrat 0
No - Republican 3, Democrat 190

Good to see they are trying to work together!
