Co GMU 444 muzzy hunt is over

Back in MN from 12 days in backcountry on Red Table mtn in 444 for blackpowder season. The two of us had quite an exhausting adventure, we set up spike camp at almost 12k feet, saw 4 bulls and a cow but 330 yrds was as close as we could get before getting busted. Most elk were down at 7k on private we learned. Did tag a decent buck, quite a learning experience and fun to see how far we could push ourselves! i love my new Eberlestock J34 pack and GoLite UL2 tent, addicted to getting way off the beaten path via spiking!

Way to go. Sounds like it was a fun hunt! Getting into the backcountry is definately worth the effort!

It was a blast, the nice weather helped but was a touch warm. Very few bugles heard, we camped 2.5mi from a road, and hunted beyond that. It seemed far enough, never saw a hunter where we hunted, but now second guessing some decisions. All part of the deal, lots of sign, but not fresh sign. Was crazy fun though!
