I had an opportunity to hunt upland birds at Black Canyon Birds and Clays. Had a great morning of shooting pheasants and chuckers. I know they are not wild birds, but it was still a great time. All totaled we filled our our birds quota, plus a few extra. The only down side to the morning was I was unable to take my new lab puppy, I hadn't done any gun training with her and didn't want the first gunshots over her to be a 12 ga., so I opted not to take her. In her place we took my buddys started 14 month old German wirehair. She did well, held point, retrieved and covered large fields for 3 shooters. Black Canyon was a great facility, with a great staff, would go back in a heart beat!

Those preserves are great places to get your dogs started. Lots of "known birds" & with friends you can do 1 on 1 training. It's nice to have a controlled environment when starting those pups.

good luck to all
