Weller Antique and Whistlepig 10 are 2 of my favorites but there are soo many good whiskies around the $20 mark. One I haven’t seen listed yet is Old Forester 100 (orange label) it’s a really good value imo- Elkish

Anyone here vacation on the Oregon or Washington Coast?
My wife and I have spent time in the Newport area and really enjoy it. The is tons of great seafood and we have caught clams and Dungeness crab on our own and there are good charters for salmon, albacore and Ling Cod. I’ll also second the sea lion caves and light houses as great family...- Elkish

Cooler Set Up for Elk
I take a 150qt igloo full of ice and a 55qt food cooler. I can usually fit a quartered elk (bone in) in the 150 and have the 55 for any overflow if needed. This seems to work well. I’m not sure about boned out... -

It seamed heavy when I checked one out at Cabela’s. But I’m used to a Kimber Montana. I haven’t shot one but I have heard they are accurate. -

I will go ahead and re-agree with ishootdasmallones and say shot placement > bullet selection > caliber We are making this way too complicated... I’m just trying to avoid novice hunters wounding elk. -

I have had similar experience with Davis. They can stand up to anything and great customer service. I agree that the 14x16 should be about right for 4 people. Keep an eye out on their monthly specials and you may be able to save a couple hundred. Also, others have mentioned this as well but 4...- Elkish

Sure, but I doubt anyone has ever come out of one of those situations saying “I wish I would have used a smaller caliber” -

I agree with this. Caliber is still part of the equation though. I don't think anyone would disagree that a 300wm or 338wm would be more forgiving than a 25-06. Any of them will kill an elk just as dead, I'm not denying that. If you are only going to be elk hunting once every few years and want... -

I’m confused, did anyone on this thread say a 25-06 wouldn’t kill an elk? My point is that a 25-06 is on the lighter side for elk and that shot placement better be perfect. -

If I were to use that cartridge on elk, I would limit myself to a distance that I would be 100% confident that I could put my shot within a golf ball. Tracking skills can also become imperative on tough animals in situations you will most likely not get a pass through. I have not seen many good... -
Elk mountain tents
We have had really good luck with Davis Tents. We literally had a large tree blow down within 20 ft of our tent and our tent did not budge. -
