This is awesome to hear. Thanks guys. Really appreciate the time. I'm going to grab a heavier Softshell pant from FL, and bring my insulated Danners. Now off to FL to make a purchase! Thanks again for the feedback.
Hi Guys,
So I am heading to NM for a back country late season (mid Nov) Elk hunt in Unit 15 (Gila NF). I normally hunt back east, but do head west for pronghorn. My concern is that I am getting mixed signals about Nov NM weather! Some websites including the Forest Service are saying be ready...
Hi Guys,
My dad and I are heading out west from NH to New Mexico this fall for a late season ML hunt in the Gila (excited is an understatement) and I am trying to figure out how to get the elk antlers and excess meat home if we are successful. I have hunted out west before and with Antelope I...
Thanks for the replies guys. based on your feedback I applied for a doe tag for my wife and a doe and buck tag for myself. I have 1 pt and last year that was 100% draw for 1pts so hopefully the 15th of June will bring good news. Thanks again.
Thanks guys, I will make sure to apply for the doe tags at the same time then. Any thoughts on 18 vs 103 or any other 1 pt buck units where we are likely to score doe tags also.
Hi Guys,
So I am heading out west for speedgoats this fall... with my wife. She is a new shooter, new hunter, but fairly game for anything. I have one point and she has none and we are looking to apply where I have a good chance of drawing a buck tag and then she and I can both buy OTC doe...
Awesome info on both states. The regs just don't make it all that clear and I am trying to do research but it gets my head spinning with the various rules over 5-10 different western states.
Thanks a ton ElkHunter24 and Speed!
Hi All,
I am a NH resident looking to make an annual hunting trip out west for big game I can't hunt back East. I am from the deepest woods of New England so this is a decent investment for me with tags, logistics, fuel, time off, etc, so I want to make sure I am going about this right.
From...
Hey JLS. Agreed on the cheap vs silly, but I was trying to get a decent amount of shooting done, had just laid out some serious cash, etc. But I have definitely learned that I should be working with what I hunt based on the results I had this time around. Won't be doing that again. I do also...
Ok, so here are the photos from my experiment with the different arrows. All were shot after a day off and these photos show probably 14 out of the first 18 arrows shot (had some warm up shots and a flyer or two).
I think this makes it pretty clear that the V Force Sport just aren't compatible...
I definitely will only shoot my hunting arrows for the 7-10 days before the season just to tune up and broadhead tune but I am cheap and don't like banging up and ruining my expensive arrows all summer. I Try and match the spine and gpi but clearly that didn't work this time! If I wasn't so...
Well I found the answer... I will post photos and info later but just spent the morning shooting probably 20 shots slowly and focused and the v force with the 300 spine (29 inches) shot an ok group at 30 (might be lucky) but poor at 10 and 20. Bloodlines with 340 spine shot (28.25 inches) good...
Thanks Tuf! That may have something to do with it for sure, however I am taking breaks in between every 12-15 shots and on my weekends I shoot 2-3 times a day to get the volume but have breaks. I definitely think fatigue could cause some strays shots, but it wouldn't explain why I was having no...
Hi All,
So I am a very new bowhunter and I am getting ready for my first season. I am shooting a Bowtech Carbon Icon at 29in DL and 70-71 draw weight. When I was initially set up I was shooting Easton bloodlines with a 330 spine and a 28 1/4 shaft. I almost immediately switched to 125 FP. Well...
Hey all,
So I drove the 2 hours each way and shot several bows with the pro shop and got set up! I am going to be working with a Bowtech Carbon Icon. I have a 29 in draw length and a 70lb draw weight... Now hold on before you jump up and down about starting at 70lbs. I tried 3 x 60 draw weight...
Thank you so much for all the useful info!
Based on the replies I think I am going to go with what my gut was telling me and check my ego at the door and go for 60lb draw. Unfortunately it looks like the truck and I are going to have to hit the road to find a bow shop as almost everybody has...
Hi All,
So I am considering moving to archery for several reasons including (1) longer seasons all around (2) easier draw odds in the West (3) additional tags for meat purposes at home in the East and (4) I love new gear!
I am looking for some suggestions on bows around $500 bare or $600-700...
