    Kids, elk, and the 7mmO8?

Update. I ended up going with the Ruger full size in 308. Mostly because I load for 30-06 and 300 win so I am sticking with 30 cal. I think I got a good buy I paid $329 at my local Bi mart. My sons birthday is a few days away so as soon as we can get out shooting I'll post up an update.

    USFWS Proposes Delisting Grizzlies

We hunters need to police our own on this one. By that I mean while we are backing this and spreading the word we should be on the look out for the "kill them all/SSS" comments that do more damage than good for our cause.

    New Scope on a Budget

The 3x9 is plenty imho. My 06 has been wearing one for 20 years and killed a lot of elk and mule deer in Oregon. I am setting two rifles up for my kids and 3x9's will be topping them.

    Kids, elk, and the 7mmO8?

Thank you all for the information. The 7-08 is a round that I don't have any personal experience with so its great to hear so many people are happy with the round using it like I am planning on. With my daughter I worked really hard to make sure she had reasonable shot distance and shot...

    Kids, elk, and the 7mmO8?

Big fan of the Leupold scopes just not the VX1, its the only scope I have seen actully fail. It was on a 300wby that was a hard kicking sob. I do love my VX3 LR but the kids aint getting a $900 scope, VX2 is a top contender so is the VX-R.

    Kids, elk, and the 7mmO8?

Looking for some opinions on the 7-08 for my kids. My daughter is 14 and my son is 12. Jazmin is an athletic 5'8" and Brock is a skinny 5'. My plan is to get them a each a rifle for the fall but I would like to get both rifles in the same caliber. I have never owned or even shot a 7-08 but...

    338 mag scope ?

The only one of the three scopes you mentiond that I have seen fail is the VX1 on a 300 wby that was a mule kicking sob. The 338 can be a kicker so IMHO I would go with the 3200. Or sell them and get the VX3 or 4200 bushnell.

    Medium Quality Bino's

I bought a pair of Viper HD's a few years ago and its some of the best money I ever spent. My little brother has Swor's and yep they are really nice. IMHO they are not 4X better than my vortex glass. If I had 2K to spend on glass then I prob would buy the swaro's but I don't have the money...

    New Rest

I switched from a trophy taker wich worked good on the range but didn't keep the arrow on the rest in the sage brush or when drawing in odd positions. After drawing a broad head off the rest and on to my wrist while deer hunting I swaped to a RipCord, best rest I have ever used. My wife...

    Episode 17

This last podcast about how the ESA works was really good. It got my blood boiling hearing about how the equal access to justice works when the extremes ruse it to litigate their agenda!

    Welcome Nosler Bullets and Ammunition

They just work. I have been a big fan of Nosler bullets for all my life. The 30 cal 180 partition has been amazing in the 06 and 300win. The 260 accubond in 375 H&H is a hell of a coyote/mule deer load as well. Couple pics from my "mixed bag" safari in southeast Oregon a couple years ago. I...

Elk Hunting Gear... Necessity or waste of time?

One thing that hasn't been said is if you are hunting with a partner wich I highly recomend you can split the weight of a few items that you don't both need to carry. Things like stoves, bone saws, tent and poles, and any other item that you won't need two of in camp. And I say again, break in...

Elk Hunting Gear... Necessity or waste of time?

Make sure you are in good shape its the cheapest thing you can do that will up your chances of success. Then buy good boots and break them in well befor you hit the mts, being in great shape won't help much if your feet fail in a day or two. As far as whats in your pack it will depend on...
