    CO 3rd Season success

I have to say the pre-hunt planning is as much fun as the actual hunt. That research led to an epic hunt in an area I found no intel on. Burning 14 points on an 11-12 point unit paid off on day 5. Public land DIY. He was the 3rd biggest buck I saw on public for the trip, albeit 1 was for 3...

    1 down. 2 to go.

I was fortunate enough to harvest this bull a few days ago. Im off to the WY unit I burned max-1 on in a couple days, and then have a breaks rifle tag. Best of luck to everyone.

    Book Cliffs

Based on my CC charge, it looks like I lucked out on a random Book Cliffs bull elk tag in Utah, for the late hunt. I have 14 deer points, and plan on hitting the BC in the next couple of years on the archery hunt, but certainly wasn't expecting to pull a bull tag for another decade or more. If...

Wyoming Guided Options with 1- max points

Members, A buddy and I are going to pull a WY elk tag in 2017. We have 1 less than max points. Looking at going guided, and prefer a backcountry hunt vs. a lodge-based hunt, but we can be convinced otherwise. Archery is definitely preferred. With the special elk price and cost of...

    621 cow elk

If anyone is willing to share some Intel for two guys with cow tags for the last 3 days of the season, I wouldn't complain. I promise good karma and a favor owed in return, plus a return of any Intel I can offer. Matt

    Montana Archery Lope

After last year's goat I had my work cut out for me on matching the quality of the hunt and the buck. Not much to tell other than I had about 70 lopes come by my blind over two days and smoked a whopper from 25 yards with the Hoyt. Nice way to relax after a 6 day Mountain Goat hunt. Matt

    Montana Success

I was lucky enough to tag out a week ago on this fine bull. I ambushed him as he was heading to a bedding area. He only made it about 30 yards. Now I can focus on my mountain goat tag. It is going to be an archery kill or tag soup...at least that is what I'm telling myself. I hope the rest...

    Montana 323 Mountain Goat

I was lucky enough to pull a tag after 13 years of applying, and would love to hear from others who have had the tag in the past. I've had a game plan for this tag for about 6 years now, and would appreciate being able to bounce my plan off of others who have held the tag. I will have time for...

    Outffiter/Hunt recommendations

Dear HT Family, I'd appreciate recommendations for a good guided elk hunt/tag purchase, for 2016. The only caveat being I do not want to look at WY, as we are one point shy of max and don't want to burn our points on a guided hunt as I hope to draw my preferred unit in 2017. This would be for...

    Late season Montana archery Goat

I got this guy on Monday. 23 yard shot and he went about 40. First time hunting out of a blind. I always thought I would hate it, but rather enjoyed watching the game and hoping one would head my way. Matt

    Wyoming Elk Hunt/Outfitter Recommendations

Fellow Hunt Talkers- I hope everyone's season has been a success. I missed a big 6 pt in the Little Belts a few weeks ago when I guessed 40 yards and he was actually 51, and am heading out again for the last week of archery. I'm looking to burn my points in Wyoming next year. I will have 9...

    double whammy

Friday morning my 66 year old dad passed. Yesterday I left my wife, which was a long time coming. 2 young girls have kept me in but I'm choosing happiness in all my decisions moving forward. Would love to hear from others who have been through similar paths in their lives. Thanks. M.A.

Public Land, MT, DIY, General Unit elk

My little honey hole produced again this year over a 3 1/2 day hunt. The packout was amazingly brutal (probably why I've only seen 1 other person in 6 years), but it was well worth it. He's a nice 5x6 that came in silent to a 30-minute calling session. 35 yard shot and a short track later...
