    460 Rowland

Glock 21 and a Springfield XD 45. I converted them myself and did not buy a kit. Both worked out well. I used compensators on both to add some weight to the barrel and slow the slide more. They need a 21-22lb recoil spring, and need extra power magazine springs. If you run hard cast lead...

    Indiana meet up

Crawfordsville, here. I'm game. I agree with Friday as being a much lower crowd time. Tougher for the guys that have a longer drive, though. Jeremy

    My hunting rifles

Cabelas has a heck of a sale on the 2-10 Vortex Razor HD LH right now. That scope is a much better optic than any Leupold below the VX5 HD line. Their 1.5-8X32 is also a sweet scope. I like Leupold scopes, but their glass in the VX2 and VX3i lines lags the competition at the same price point...

Home come Howa's don't get more love?

You're joking right? The stock on that rifle comes from a blank I had turned and semi-inlet by a top end stock turner. The rest is in the post. Not sure what you are getting at. It's just an example of what a Howa action can be used for. Just like any Remington, Winchester or Mauser. Howas...

Home come Howa's don't get more love?

Thanks, all. When I got the blank for that stock, it didn't look like much. A little figure, but not much. Halfway through shaping, it finally started to come alive. In the sunlight you can see into the wood. Just an example of a Howa based custom. Like I said, I like working with them...

WY moose sheep point fee increase

I doubt NR numbers will dwindle. They might for a year or so, then it will once again increase. Kind of like when gas prices shot through the roof. I stopped fishing with my boat for a year, then slowly got back to making those trips. Yes, they cost more, but they had enough value to me to...

WY moose sheep point fee increase

Glad I stayed out of the WY game for the big three. That is one state that figured out how to make money off of the non-resident. Not that the others are a lot different, but WY just rubbed me wrong long ago. Jeremy

Home come Howa's don't get more love?

No love for Howa's??? Here is a Weatherby Vanguard that I loved with 60+hours worth of my free time into a 7mm Rem Mag with a 24" Douglas barrel, claro walnut stock, and 20 lpi point checkering. My wifes neice wanted it built as a wedding gift to her future husband. Dude got a sweet rifle and...

    Seek Outside Pack Question

I have the Revolution frame with a couple of different bags. All of the bags for the Revolution frame allow a load between the bag and frame. None of the Unaweep frame/bag combos do this. I'm sure Kevin covered this with you. They have really good customer service, and know their gear well...

Unlike your wife, I want you opinion - Sidearm 10mm vs 357 mag

For what its worth, my guide in Alaska carried a custom 1911 in 10mm. He has other options, but shoots that one very well so it gets the nod when a handgun is in order. This is on non-brown bear hunts where a pissed off bear is possible, but a pissed off bear is not expected. That said...

    What caliber Kimber??

30-06. You don't have to shoot heavy ammo in it for deer. Shoot 130gr loads and enjoy it. In the future, should you want/need to go up to a 180 or even 200, at least you could. That said, if you never plan to shoot the big bears, the 7mm will do everything else just fine. Jeremy

    lead sled or sandbags?

Lead sled or equivalent is my go to. I rarely take less than 3 rifles and at least one is usually a hard kicker. Sand bags work fine as well, but 60-70 rounds of .300 Win and .340 Weatherby into a range day wears me out without a sled. None of my rifles wear a brake. Jeremy

Determine "the right" length of pull

The short answer is no, custom stock makers don't use a formula very often. Mass stock makers do. A quick method used that I have found more or less close, is to measure from your index finger pad in the firing position to the center of your bicep also in the firing position. Make your...

    Southeast MT elk/deer combo

You didn't say when you want to be in MT, but a 900 antelope tag for archery antelope is a fun way to keep from getting bored. Everyone else covered the basics of the deer and elk. Lots of deer, both muleys and whitetails, small pockets of elk, lots of antelope. Bird shooting can also be an...

    MT General ?

It is a tradeoff. Either sex could mean more pressure, but it also means generally higher elk numbers. Otherwise, it would be limited quota on cows. The bigger factor is to look at the units you like and see if the elk can take refuge on private land. Higher elk numbers aren't that way...

Savage 6.5 creed moor for secondary rifle

Move the Leupold, or buy a new scope. The Kaspa line isn't horrible, but it is a low end scope and doesn't have the build quality of the Leupold. Strangely, it probably has better glass in it, though. The VX1 line sacrifices a lot in the glass to get the price down. If you want a new...

Gear advice from experienced elk hunters

I've always used a quiver on my bow, and rarely take it off. Even in a treestand here in Indiana. A couple years ago I got a Tight Spot quiver and it is a really good design. Can be tucked tight into the bow, and is very adjustable. The other comments about followup shots, and being ready...

    22 Nosler

First thing I thought was neck that to 6mm and now we're talking. Still a pretty nice round in .22. Jeremy

    Best rifle for under $2000

Very hard question to answer. "Best" changes based on who you are and what you want that rifle for. To start, I would look at rifles in the $1500 and under category, and save AT LEAST $500 for a scope. Unless you already have a good scope. $500 gets you a quality scope, and that is about as...

    Tips for learning mulies?

BOHNTR isn't far off. I've been on a couple of sheep hunts and a couple of goat hunts, none my own. We glassed up some impressive mule deer. Time behind glass, and learning what they eat and when seems to be the best way for me. I also like to hunt areas that are heavily timbered. Deer...
