In 2017 my son drew a moose permit and harvested a nice young bull moose. The hide was jet-black and I had the hide tanned for him. My son since has graduated College (MSU), got a job, and moved away.

Here is a Senate Bill that has "flown-under-the-radar" (no pun intended). The SB 333 simply establishes a statute of criminal trespass for flying drones over private property. This sounds innocuous, but in effect, this Bill would establish private property ownership of the airspace above the...
Looking ahead to the weather outlook. It's going to be wet, muddy, and snowy this 2022 Montana opening weekend. Should provide some good hunting and entertainment value. Be safe and be sure of your target(s).
Good luck to everyone.
Hello--
I helped a friend and his father (80 years old) on a Big Horn Sheep hunt last year and the father was successful. They gave me some Big Horn sheep meat (butchered and wrapped) as a way of saying "thank you".
I have taken out a package and do not have any experience with cooking Big...

In an effort to address overcrowding and pressure on public lands the Elk Management Citizen Advisory Group is recommending that wildlife managers require hunters to choose either archery hunting or rifle hunting.
As a long time resident of Montana, I...

I now own two Tikka rifles, 270 and a 300 Win Mag. Have any of you ever purchased an extra clip for your Tikka rifle? If so, how do you go about purchasing an extra clip?
I have to vent a little regarding this year. I have and continue to hunt the Missouri Breaks for archery, as well as rifle. This year there seems to be a lot of toilet paper blowing across the landscape. It is pretty appalling. I bury my bodily function(s) and the toilet paper. It takes a...
I have always had an issue with my boots and "toe bang". Meaning … while hiking/hunting and I am either side-hilling or traveling straight down a hill, my toes bang into the toe box of my boot and I end up with blackened toe nail(s) or losing my toe nail(s). I purchased a pair a high quality...
In another post, Big Fin brings up a good point … "slush fund". Similarly, like Big Fin … I'm "cheap" (I like to use the word "frugal" ;) ).
When I graduated College … I didn't make much at first. I chose to stay in Montana, so I paid the "Big Sky tax" (low paying job = cost of choosing...
Where and how do you carry your can of bear spray or a handgun while you are bow or rifle hunting? Over the years ... I seem to attach or carry more and more stuff to myself as I hunt. Do you attach the can of bear spray/handgun to your waist belt or your shoulder strap or some place else ...

Can anyone tell me who in the Billings, MT area can "officially" score some elk antlers?
This is a picture of the bull my son shot in the Breaks this year. The body on this bull was big ... one of the biggest bodied elk we have been lucky enough to harvest. My son is 6'0" tall (as a...
I am looking to purchase a knife sharpener to sharpen primarily my hunting knife(s) and occasionally a pocket knife or kitchen knife or two. I currently have a Lansky standard three-stone knife-sharpening system, but I am still having issues with getting a good sharp edge consistently. I would...
Well, this has been a very good year for my two boys. My youngest drew and harvest a bull moose and my oldest was able to fill his HD 410 Either Sex Elk Permit on Opening Day. We were give some very good intel on elk just prior to the season starting. The information was of an area I archery...
I'm curious how many of you put a piece of electrical or other "tape" over the end of you rifle barrel to help stop things from entering the barrel (i.e. snow, rain, or mud in the event you drop your gun, etc)? Thoughts? Does this affect ballistics performance when you fire the gun?
Thanks...
