I live in AZ and know unit 9 like the back of my hand. But I don't know anything about Montana, other then Im going to put in for the non-resident combo tag this year and need some direction as to where to go. PM me and maybe we can exchange info to help each other out
Boy do you know how to melt a mans heart. Beautiful dog, but if I bring another dog home the wife will make me move to the garage. Thanks for letting me dream about a chocolate lab pup
I would possibly go out a couple days early, stay at your friends place, scout like crazy, and then camp and hunt out of the truck in what ever area seems most promising.
I think I would go for the Elk/Deer combo license also. You have come that far and invested a lot already, whats a few more...
++1 on the Barnes TTSX. Im sure that other bullets of similar construction are as good, but why not go with the original. They hit with such devastation and retain almost 100% of their mass. The last deer and antelope i shot were marginal, and Im sure the Barnes Bullet helped to make my success.
These posts are in error. Coues deer hunting is all work and no play. Why would anyone want to do it. All kidding aside, great job on those deer. As stated before, any Coues deer is a trophy. More people should try hunting this hunt at least once. When you do it becomes addictive. and that's...
It took 21 years and 22 bonus points, but I finally drew a rifle Antelope tag for unit 9. Az is not known for it amount of goats, but it sure does produce some quality bucks.
Long story short,7 days of scouting, along with 5 days of hunting and here is the result. Awesome buck and great hunt.
I...
If this is a once in a lifetime trip, I think that any of those would be safe. If this is a trip you will be repeating on a annual basis, I would shoot any of those bucks. Sets the bar for the future and some tender steaks.
Antelope bucks are tough to judge, you will see that 70% of the bucks...
It is a cool looking buck. Love the flared prongs. I guess 74, but what do I know.
I finally drew AZ unit 9 rifle after 22 years, im sure I will be seeing Eli around this summer and fall.
Thanks for the tips on scoring.
I did the math and the test 4 times. I come up with between 88 and 92.
Pronghorn are so tough, guess I better by Eli's DVD and bone up. No matter the score that is a " No questions asked " shooter that anybody and everybody should be proud of.
I have a Kimber model 84 with a wood stock and blued furniture in 308 Winchester. Mounted with a Nikon Monarch 4 x 12 x 42 scope the whole thing is less then 8 pounds. Love Kimber products, highly recommended. ( Have a Kimber 1911 also )
I was out scouting for the upcoming archery elk season and if im going cross country checking waterholes, glassing, ect. I always carry a sidearm. I got back to my quad and unstraped the gun from my hip and placed it still in the holster, into the saddle bags.
You can see where this is going...
Just wondering, and having a hard time trying to figure this out so I will just ask, junior88 who is you favorite driver???
Just signed up, ready for DATONA
Wow, never want to be in that position, but Archery elk, with the first hint of fall in the air, the aspens changing, and the first bugle of the year would be hard to beat. Wouldn't even care about the result just being there would be enough, if my sons were along....PRICELESS
OK, So the holidays are over and the new year blooms with dreams of what is in store for the up coming fall hunting seasons.
Here is my question for the masses. I have amassed 21 bonus points for the State of Arizona Pronghorn Antelope draw.
If you were in my shoes what unit would you put in...
Tomorrow evening I, along with my 2 sons and some great friends will be at our elk camp for the start of the archery elk season on Friday. To say I am like a kid at Christmas is an understatement. The older I get the more it is about the chalenge of the hunt and the enjoyment of the company...
Thanks, I will be watching your posts as you go thru the hunt. Good luck and post pictures. There are some monster bucks in 10, might be the best unit in the West. holdout if you can. but I know how hard that is if you had an 80 inch buck in range for a shot. wish we all had that choice. ( id...
