I currently work in the industry and can echo much of what has been mentioned. You do need two rods and the lenghts and weights described will fit the bill. St. Croix is a decent rod, not what they used to be. You can get a killer deal right now, if you look (ebay), on a brand new Sage...
Thank you for the replies thus far. It will be a learning experience and I am hoping to get back to the Midwest this late fall/winter as well for some Whitetail hunting. All of my big game hunting out here will be by bow as well, making things that much more difficult.

Na, wasn't asking if one was better than the other. From what I have seen they are very similar, but if I had to give the edge to one in terms of quality and function, it would be Sitka. Just wondering what the best bang for the buck would be. Sitka at cost or APXg2 at retail.
