I received the Defcon M6Z yesterday. At this point it is set at 75 pounds and 29.5 inch draw. With a 398 gr arrow it showed 331 fps. That's 23 gr over IBO weight, with d-loop and 1/4 inch peep installed. It's not quite as fast as my old Mathews Monster-6, but tons quieter and virtually zero...
I am receiving this exact bow in 80 lb version at 29.5 inch draw this week. I presently shoot a Mathews Monster in 6 inch brace height and a Mathews Heli-M, so in a week or so I should be able to give you a good comparison.
Ben, you need to get your facts straight. There was still a grizzly season in Montana until the early 90's. Buzz, your statements about Mt. FWP are dead on, with the exception of turkeys.
The heaviest recorded in Yellowstone was 143 pounds. Here's the link

That is a beautiful buck. Those split brows drive me nuts. Best of luck on your hunt, and forget about the elk until that buck is down. Here is a picture of a very similar buck that my son took with his bow---minus the split brows. My son's buck grossed 156.
That's a damn nice buck, Hunter. Next year you'll have to make B&C for any improvement. Good luck on elk. I heard the Milk is being devastated by bluetongue right now. Hope that doesn't mess you guys up.

Just for the record, prior to the wolf explosion and poor elk management by our previous biologist, these areas that you are showing were tremendous elk hunting areas. Their elk density was way beyond what most wilderness areas carry. Multiple use doesn't mean poor elk hunting any more than...
Man you're slow sometimes. How many times do I have to explain my first post to Rocky Dogdick? Did you not read that I said I agree with you regarding the NRAs involvement in issues like this?
Buzz,
I think they have a fair view of the 2nd, but I would agree with you on the rest. That really wasn't my point to RD, however. I was trying to illustrate to him that broad generalizations are seldom appropriate. I know a LOT of damn solid NRA members.
Back to my original question. Does anyone have any additional information pertaining to the ongoing calf mortality/survival study in the west fork of the bitterroot?
