I finally got around to summarizing our Idaho deer hunt. Although deer were our intended quarry, no deer were harmed during the hunt. We did however somehow manage to be at the right place, at the right time and were able to harvest a beautiful male wolf. We both knew they were in the area and each of us had purchased a wolf tag "just in case". All the stars lined up on the first full day of our hunt. I'm sure the local deer and elk herds will appreciate the fact that there is one less wolf to worry about, but they won't be able to let down their guard as there are plenty more to go around. As for deer, we saw quite a few does and small bucks, but nothing worthy of a ride back to Oregon. The weather was warm and rainy and we even had a thunderstorm on Sunday evening, Oct. 28. I hadn't hunted the area since 2002, but it was nice to get back and see how much it hadn't changed. Saw a nice chocolate colored black bear and a couple fairly decent bighorn rams during the hunt as well. Lots of grouse around and we didn't hesitate in reducing the population. Anyhow, enjoy the photos and good luck to those who still have tags in their pockets.
