Elk Hunting in the Bitterroot

Been a few years since I hunted this spot. It's always been a good one

About a minute after I took this picture this morning, a bull bugled across the draw and started chuckling his way down the ridge. Game on! I'll just loop my way to the left, get on the ridge, and get after them.

A little while later and in to fresh tracks, I ran into this......

Blow down was a little more intense than last time I was here.

I can relate to that this summer I took my boys to a place we used to pack in and hunt the downfall was so thick we never made it in spent the day crawling climbing through it .
 
I saw a calf once near Lolo. :p

You must be mistaken. It was probably an alpaca, chupacabra or wolly mammoth. There' no way it could have been an elk calf. They were extirpated centuries ago.
