First time elk hunter

I am looking for any advice I can get for this year's rifle season in Vega reservoir Colorado area (421). I have been a deer Hunter for over 25 years and finally going on my first elk hunt with rifle in just a few days. I will be doing a drop camp style hunt.

I know there's going to be a lot of glassing / walking . This time of year during first rifle season do Elk stay high in the mountains ? With the rut ending will cow/ bugling calls scare them off.

heavily hunted area. if not standing on super fresh elk sign keep moving. hunters will be pushing them. hunt low and hunt high.

i will be out thjis weekend too, not too many miles from you and I wont bugle much if at all as compared to archery season.

With a lot of pressure I would setup high and wait for them to be pushed up to you

I would setup low right along private/public boundary and wait for them to be pushed to private but that's just me
