Well my 4th elk hunting trip this year we finally got it done! Lots of prayer and faith! The good Lord blessed me with this great bull. Public land in SW MT. Me my Dad and my brother hiked up the ridge an hour before legal light. About ten minutes before shooting time I looked down in the bottom and 7 or 8 nice bulls were coming our way. I got into position and a minute after I could shoot this bull cleared and gave me a shot. It felt good but he was barely bleeding and it eventually stopped. Thankfully with the snow we were able to track him into the timber. I jumped him 3 times but could never get a shot off. Probably a little bit of a rookie mistake pushing him like that, but I learned that lesson. My Dad told me to just give him a little time to bed back down. So that's what we did. I eventually went back into the timber in his foot steps. Just a little ways in and I started smelling him again. A minute or two later I came over a little rise and there he was at 80 yards. I crouched down, put one in the chamber, and got ready to shoot. When I did so he looked right at me and I knew it was now or never. I had one shooting lane through the trees, got steady, and dropped him! It was and awesome experience and it was awesome that my brother and Dad were there to experience it as well. The next day we met some great guys who brought in horses to help us get it out! Super thankful for them. I learned a lot about elk, myself, and how faith, perseverance, and patience pay off! And God blessed me with this awesome bull!

What a bull for your first one! That one is going to be hard to top! Congrats!

Wow, that is a great bull! I can definitely relate to the temptation to get in there and try to find him right away! Glad you were able to catch up to him. Nice job!

Montanakid that's a dandy bull. The Lord did bless you with a great bull. I like the picture of the backstrap and the horns. Congratulations to you and your dad.

Sounds like a great adventure with your family alongside. Sounds like your dad knows his stuff in the woods. Keep expanding your hunting skills, and be ready to pass it on to others when the appropriate time comes.

Congratulations on a great bull. Reminds me of my first elk, except you're a lot younger than I was and your bull is bigger ............ okay, now I'm just jealous. That's going to be a lifelong memory for sure.
