I'm not really sure what it means, but we'll go with it.

Just so Randy11 knows that I'm not going stir crazy on a windswept ridge chasing a gray partridge, I may post a photo of dead elk.

First some scenery, which was outstanding.

My elk. I shot her on a recon hike. We had access to a private ranch, but the elk were very high and we had to work our tails off to find them and get to them. It took 6 hours of backpacking to get her to the truck.

Krista's first elk. She's a trooper. We did a significant belly crawl to get on these and she made a great shot at 250 yards. One shot from the Model 70 and this cow was dead on its feet. One insurance shot to the neck when it bedded and it was high five city.

Wow, talk about some cool elk country. Congrats!

I'm also very glad you left those poor birds alone for a weekend.

Super!! Congrats to the both of you. That is some wicked neat country to kick around in.

Krista learned some valuable lessons on this trip, in no particular order of significance:

1. You can't drive right up to everything you shoot
2. It's way more exciting to shoot elk than deer
3. Winter range hunts can be tough
4. Elk just don't fall down when you hit them
5. Shot opportunities can happen very fast

She has no sense of nostalgia, but I think it's pretty darned cool she killed her first elk with a pre-64 Model 70 featherweight

Congrats to both of you on the elk, but even more so on the quality family time! Beautiful scenery. What state is that, if you don't mind sharing?

The Cowboy state. It was a fun trip down memory lane, it's been many years since I last hunted in Wyoming. I think that's going to change.
