Flying home from a great week in Costa Rica with the family and I had a voicemail from a nice lady at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Thought someone was playing a joke on me. My wife and boys thought I was having a heart attack listening to the message. 😂 Guess it was really my lucky day! Now to decide which of the bear hunts to do.IMG_7301.jpeg

Yes, if you don't have a family member that meets that requirement. I have a sister and brother-in-law that live in Alaska so I have that option. It will depend if my brother-in-law can get the time off work for the hunt I choose.
That is very weird that since when you draw, you need to have a guide agreement to be issued the tag. I would think that with this raffle tag, it would be an exception because if you draw, many outfitters will have already been booked up after the draw results back in February. Kinda lame actually

That would be nice. I'm not complaining though. Before I went to Kodiak I actually applied several times for the Unimak Island tag so I'm thinking I'll do that in Spring of 25 with this tag. I don't think I can make any of the Fall dates work this year.

I'm not sure what I would do, TBH. All three tags have their own challenges and rewards. I'd love to have a Chugach bear tag, not as big but a very cool experience. Id imagine it would be way cheaper as a NR too.

Good points. It's going to be a tough choice that's for sure. Right now I'm leaning towards a Spring hunt since my Kodiak bear hunt was in the Fall and I want a different experience. Also Fall this year would be harder to schedule. I believe I have 30 days or so to make my choice.

Very cool, congrats! Cant wait to see how it unfolds.

Why were you applying for unimak in the first place?

Thanks!

I had always thought it sounded like a great adventure to hunt Unimak. Very remote and some huge bears. Also thought hunting them on the beaches when they were looking for dead whales sounded cool. After trying for several years I realized the odds were so slim to draw the tag so I switched over to Kodiak and drew the first year I put in. That was in 2014.
