Failed to draw anything out west this year despite piles of points. Then OTC Colorado elk hunt got cancelled due to two medical problems. But healed just enough to draw my bow Sept. 30th. So hit some Illinois public land on my way to work in St. Louis for the week. Cold front happened to hit that Friday and this guy wandered out of the corn from private land. Made terrible shot due to shoulder weakness, but got lucky and hit artery. He only went 86 yards down a ravine. I quartered him and hand carted over a mile to my jeep, finishing at 3 AM. Three hour hunt. 8 Hour extraction. 160" gross P&Y.
