Last September 12th. Luckiest day of hunting for me in 45 years...
Had it officially scored at 386 3/8 gross, 371 4/8 final.

late season archery az 3c bull. hit him bad on the last day of the hunt, thanksgiving day, went back to town and got my brother in law to help track. by the time we finished it was dinner time and we ate thanksgiving dinner in camo. my wife especially was not happy (she cooked)

Yep that is exactly what happened. I was too excited on the first shot...he was quartering away and shot him through the ear and out the front of his horn. It annoyed him, but he stayed put and shot number 2 put him down. I have a euro mount and the gouge in is base is good conversation piece....about how exciting elk hunting can be!!

My best bull to date. Third season CO bull tag. I wasn't even going to go that year but my dad passed that summer and while at the service I decided I was going, because tomorrow is promised to no one and there's still many more mountains to climb.

Wow, is all I can say!! I've never been elk hunting. Have a trip planned for September archery in Idaho. Very impressive to see elk taken with primitive archery. I have killed four whitetail with a recurve but couldn't imagine an elk. Maybe someday...

Archery Elk 2014
I am new to the Forum and am enjoying the great stories. Here are the pictures of my first ever Elk taken around Steamboat Springs, CO. last year. I have hunted DIY hunts in the San Juan National Forest for the past 6 years before taking this bull. Our group decided to change the area we were hunting and 2 out of our 3 came up with bulls! A lot of backpack trips and many miles of trekking in the National forest was great experiences but we were just not seeing many elk. This was on a private ranch but all fair chase low fence property. I think I have made every possible elk dish there is and loved them all. I have made slim jims, links and summer sausage which all came out great too.

BTW, I am very interested to go back Colorado for Archery Elk hunt if anyone could help with a good horse pack in outfitter for a drop camp. The people we used last year are not responding to any of our calls or e-mails. May be out of the biz, I don't know. Anyway, thanks any info that you may have.
