My first Archery Elk. Black Hills, SD. 2013. Applied for 12 years for the tag, ended up getting him at 12 yds!! Of course I was after the herd bull, but couldn't pass him up when he came walking right straight to me! Took the controversial front chest shot on him. I had researched the kill spot & felt completely confident & comfortable to take the shot. He died less than 15 yds in front of me in literally less than 1 minute from the time I released my arrow! Completely severed his top arteries. Took about 7 hours to quarter & pack him back to the pickup. Was the most intense & rewarding elk hunt my husband & I have enjoyed together!
