What do you feel is a good distance from your bait pile to hang your treestand?
I have two trees to choose from at my site, one at 24 yds. and the other at 18 yds. In your opinion is the closer spot too close? I am mainly concerned with being able to move without being seen and my scent too. Opinions please, thanks.

Id say put it farther away option but I'm a rifle hunter. I have hunted bears over bait quite a bit and there are kind of 2 theories. I always feel like the bear knows I'm in there most of the time, but if I'm still and quiet then he doesnt care and will come on in. Lots of guys think otherwise, and watch their scent, take different routes in wearing rubber boots etc. I've got video of 2 14 year old boys talking laughing, watching a dvd and they film and shoot a 7'8" black bear that watches them the whole way in, but he comes anyway. he without a doubt knew they were there.

I don't shoot so well, so this stand is 4 yards from the bait.
