It's been a strange year for me this year! Moved back to Montana, from Idaho, at the beginning of November. Needless to say, missing the rut due to residency issues hurt
I made it back to Idaho last week to take advantage of their late season bow hunt for elk/deer. Our first morning found us into the the elk a mere 300 yards from the truck. After a blown stalk I was back on their trail. While heading into a canyon I spotted two whitetails. The wind was perfect and I had a quiet approach, I couldn't pass up a good stalk!
After a few close encounters I was finally able to slip into 25 yards and put a nice double lung hit on this small buck. He's not my biggest with my bow, but perhaps the most memorable. It was my first animal with my dad tagging along in 5 years.
Here's the shocker; We we reached the downed deer he lost right antler. After a few pictures and gutting the other side fell off! Should make for a very interesting euro mount, and one that will provide great memories for years to come!
The next day I was able to get with 20 yards of elk on 3 different stalks, but branches or bad shot angles never provided a shot.
