It's been a couple of years since I moved back to the mountains in Idaho and away from the plains of Oklahoma. I've hunted here and there and enjoyed the sights, but haven't had an opportunity on an antlered deer that I wanted to take, but with my wife not working this winter, and a new to me rifle I lowered the standards a little and tipped over this young'n.
About that time I realized I was 4 miles in, and about 2500 vertical feet up from the truck, At least when I left the truck I had the sense to go uphill. It's been about 20 years since I haven't been able to drive a vehicle to a downed deer, so I got to take a little bit of a packout, and damned if I didn't forget the fuzzy slippers for photos.
