I recently bought a Henry Big Boy X in 45 Colt and plan to use it for thick woods, closer in brush hunting. So basically inside of 100yds. What optic would you go with or have gone with if you have a similar carbine? I am thinking this may be possible red dot territory.

I have a vortex crossfire2 1-4x with red dot on my 35 rem that i bought very used to be a deer drive/brush fast shot type rifle. With that scope on 1x i can shot both eyes open at running deer and when i am on stand i can turn it up and make shots i would never make with iron sights. So confident in that rifle/scope setup i use it all the time in timber hunting elk now. That cheapy scope has harnessed every ounce of accuracy out of that ugly rifle.

I'd go with this, personally
I had one on a Marlin 1894 in 45 colt and it was a great, handy rifle.

I've got that same scope on my wife's Ruger American rimfire, sweet little set up. 100yd shots are no problem.

I use a Burris 3-9 on my Henry 45 colt.
Works perfect....
Use a hammer spur..

I just thought 40mm would be wider???
I have a 30mm, and a 40mm the 40 is wider n taller.
Bushnells...
But maybe diff. Manufacturers do things diff??

Hard to compare the glass quality from your Bushnell to the Leupold.

@Rob96 ,
I just purchased a Henry single shot Brass in 45-70 for a brush gun.
I don't care for the open sights on it.
But don't want to put a scope on it. (it is drilled and tapped)
I'm thinking a low profile red dot may be in order.

Actually what I ended up doing was putting a Sig Romeo 5 on it. Shoots great to 100yds.

The only optics I use on a lever gun in the thick. My 30-30 Model 94 has a factory Lyman tang peep for "long" shots out to 150 yards.
