I'm considering booking private land elk hunt with United States Outfitters on 10,000 acre ranch near southeast corner of gmu#4 in northern NM. Would appreciate info from anyone familiar with on elk hunting in this area or with info on this outfitter. I'm out of state so don't know anyone local to talk with. Plan is to hunt 2nd week of Oct. 2013. Thanks.

The USO leader took an unpopular stand in a court battle re Arizona tag allotments and non-residents. Had ramifications throught the West. I also recall that if you apply with USO and get a tag then you have to use them.
Your odds for drawing a tag in NM for elk are many times better by applying with an outfitter than if you apply in the regular non-resident draw.
You can buy a landowner tag for elk in some units in NM and bypass the draw.
I would check references and ask for the name of the guide, too, for any outfitted hunt in any state.
