idaho elk hunt

I am looking at going to stanley to do some elk hunting. i am military stationed in idaho so im not extreamly familure with the area. any tips that could help me be successful would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a wolf tag, hunt hard and shoot the first legal bull you see.

Thanks yall, i will def buy a wolf tag. I plan to hunt hard and cover as much terrain as possible. I was curious about the Rut. will the bulls still react to calls around middle OCT?

My experience is yes, but those were also in less hunted areas in N Idaho.

Awesome hopefully they respond down here as well. I have been told the rut is just beginning and last about 3 weeks.

As far as my self I'm from Tennessee so this elk stuff is new to me, I am an air traffic controller in the Air Force. Been in about 5 years and have 15 to go.

I've had elk bugle until the first gun shot and then they get quiet. Use your glass more than your boots. Good luck!

so im trying to decide between area 25 around the warm lake area and hunting up in stanley in are 36. if anyone has any info that they would be willing to pass on that would be much appreciated.
