ice auger

You can get a cheap auger, but i would buy good quality blades to put on it. there isn't much worse in ice-fishing than trying to cut through a foot of ice with dull blades. Good luck out there

I would borrow one if I could. A good auger with very sharp blades is a must. No sense trying to make a hole with a tea spoon. Drilling with an auger uses different arm muscles that what you are used to so you will get tired quickly.

I let someone borrow my auger to use once, and it came back and the shaft was bent from the reefing on it and not knowing how to use it. Now I don't lend it out anymore, too spendy to take a chance.

I used a chain saw for several years before I got an auger.. Cut to within and inch of the water and then chip out.
