Hawaii Hunting Link

Hey Gunner46.. You going to be hunting Hawaii?? I am on my way there tomorrow night to run a gameboat for a few months and probably do a bit of Axis deer hunting also. I'll be working on Maui. For anybody coming over give me a heads up and we'll see if we can't put together a hunt and fish thing.

No plans coming up. I've been twice already. Never hunted Maui, But I did hunt turkeys on Molokai, Pigs on Ohau, sheep on the big island, and Axis on Lanai.

Take your shotgun and a medium rifle. I had my 308 and it was more than enough. My 1st trip I took a 7mm Mag for Axis, didn't need the extra weight (those mountains are STEEP), nor the power.

Good luck.

We might be heading over to Maui this summer - depending on if our friends can get it together on their deal. If they don't, we may head over on our own. We go there at least every other year - I'd like to find someone to share a house with when I retire - they'd live there half the year and we'd live there the other half. Then a place in New Mexico, Montana or Wyoming to hunt and spend the summer and fall....

Cali... Maybe we should talk about some stuff. I arrive in Maui tomorrow. I was fortunate to live there for 7yrs. Got some contacts so drop me an email if your coming over. Maybe I can help you outwith something.

Get in contact with Dean Gonzales (sp). Ohau. He used to be the Prez of the state's WTF, but he knows every hunter on all the islands. Good guy.

Cal Kahola, Ohau.

Wally Hyre, if he's still alive.

Call the Rod & Gun Club on MCAS K-Bay, they always have something going on and are happy to drag a Howlie (sp) along. If ya get in with these guys, ya might get a free ride to another island.

Buy Island-hopping airline tickets by the coupon book.

Find a commericial load that shoots well in your rifle, or reload up big, before you go. Reloading stuff is outragious $$, and hard to get.

Learn to skin, cape, and care for your kill.. Share Everything...the islanders know.. and your skills, sharing will get you places you won't get to otherwise.

Eat what ever they offer you...slurp it down and smile........again, it'll get you places you wouldn't get to otherwise.

Good Luck

Here's a Maui Axis.

Not that it's not good to have Oak follow you around, but if you accidentally drop something and he's there you might get more then a Picture edit ;)
