Colorado 1st rifle

Got home to Illinois on Sunday at 1800 from a cruise to Canada.
Finally left home at 0930 on Monday.
Arrived at our cabin in Colorado this afternoon! Finally!
My buddy has been here a couple days now and doing a little scouting. Last night he found 7 elk with one small shooter bull. This morning he found a herd of 30 with 4 legal bulls.
Starting to look like a pretty good season. We’ll send the next 3 days up higher looking for a little better class of bulls, but at least we know where some are at.

Got my junk unloaded. Ready to go take a drive up and a walk up.
I can tell I’m not at 600’ elevation anymore!
Oh ya, I ended up bringing the 300 Weatherby.

Right before dinner, we had a little shower. Then saw this. Looks like a sign to me!

Got about 3 miles back in this morning scouting. Didn’t lay eyes on an elk, but several mule deer and black angus.
Pretty country.

With a seemingly later rut, and weather moving in today/ tomorrow should be a heck of a hunt for the first rifle fellas good luck
