Hey Ladies and Gents,

Am I correct in interpreting that "Draw-by-Choice" in the California draw system is a random draw? California also uses preference points but some of the tags are held for "Draw-by-Choice" as stated in the hunting guide.

Thanks,

Wes

First come ,first served. Deer.
Used to be A-zone,the B's & most of the D's.
That's how I got 2 tags most every year, for years.
Changed since I moved out 7 years ago.
I think A-zone is only unit that never sells out with 90k tags for deer, at one time.

The draw by choice is the random portion of the draw, for elk pronghorn and sheep it shakes out like this.

-For quotas of one, the tag shall be awarded using a Draw-By-Choice drawing. For quotas of two, one tag shall be awarded using a Preference Point drawing, and one tag shall be awarded using a Draw-By-Choice drawing.
-For quotas of three, two tags shall be awarded using a Preference Point drawing, and one tag shall be awarded using a Draw-By-Choice drawing.
-For quotas of four or more, seventy-five percent (75%) of the quota shall be awarded using a Preference Point drawing. The remaining portion of the quota shall be awarded using a Draw-By-Choice drawing.
