"The BLM has documented extensive damage caused by off-road vehicles in the Wilderness Study Areas it oversees," said Jerry Greenberg, co-chair of the National ORV Coalition. "ORVs are causing soil erosion, tearing up plants, ripping through streambeds, gouging holes in the landscape, and destroying some of the wildest and most fragile natural places that the public owns. However, the new strategy essentially directs BLM managers to continue their existing policies for managing ORVs on those lands, barring only development of new routes and trails there."
