The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking to hire qualified individuals for two positions: a hunter retention and recruitment coordinator, and an archery education coordinator. PROGRAM PROJECT SPECIALIST II
"Hunter Retention and Recruitment Coordinator"
INFORMATION AND EDUCATION DIVISION / EDUCATION BRANCH
PERMANENT POSITION / PHOENIX
SALARY GRADE 19 ($32,461- $55,305)
ANNOUNCEMENT # 18-06NWS / CLOSING DATE 03/24/2006

Description of duties: This position educates the public on the role of hunting as a viable wildlife management tool in Arizona by incorporating youth hunting programs as well as other outreach efforts, including school and other programs, adult mentoring programs, and hunter seminars and clinics. Capitalizes on opportunities to increase hunter recruitment and retention through programmatic outreach efforts. Establishes a volunteer network through coordination with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to facilitate implementation and support of local sportsmen's clubs to drive statewide involvement. Provides opportunities for the public to learn hunting skills and to participate in hunting and associated activities. Coordinates with hunting clubs in implementing program activities and encourages local activism. Develops and implements a youth hunting program focusing on small game that incorporates aspects appropriate to Arizona's resources and capabilities. Develops, implements and coordinates a pilot wing-shooters' and a portable clay shooting program. Develops and monitors measurements of internal and external hunter recruitment and retention effectiveness, and incorporates ongoing adaptive management processes in referring efforts.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of the concepts of program planning and design; considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and trends in hunter recruitment and retention; and knowledge about shooting sports and outdoor recreation in general. The desired candidate will have the ability to plan, coordinate and establish priorities with attention to detail. The preferred candidate will have skill in customer service, the Microsoft Office Suite and other data management and presentation computer-based software, and effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Bilingual skill in English/ Spanish would be an added benefit, but not required.

"Archery Education Coordinator"

Description of duties: This position maintains existing Arizona Game and Fish archery programs in the state. Works with outside agencies, civic organizations, hunting groups, schools, city, county, regional, state, federal and other officials as necessary, serving as the agency's primary contact and facilitator to develop new archery programs. Educates the public on the role of hunting as a viable wildlife management tool in Arizona by incorporating youth programs as well as other outreach efforts (including school and other venues) with archery programs, seminars and clinics. Capitalizes on opportunities to increase hunter recruitment and retention through programmatic outreach efforts, providing opportunities for program participants to learn hunting skills and to participate in hunting and associated outdoor activities. Coordinates with existing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to establish volunteer networks to cooperate in program implementation. Serves as the department's primary facilitator and coordinator in working with communities to develop new archery programs. Monitors other state and NGO programs to assure that the department adopts new tactics to move closer to retention and recruitment goals. The coordinator also monitors/ explores efforts to establish measurements to assure program effectiveness.
