For those of you that feel Leupold quality has deteriorated can you identify a model or year that was the "last good product"? This isn't a challenge, but more a question of what model is quality in holding zero and repeatability. Sort of a pre-64 winchester... what's the pre-64 leupold model(s).
A buddy has one, and factory loads were not bad at all. He loads up a super hot 500gr hard cast and moly coats it, that one says "hello" when you touch one off. One of those was enough to prove my manhood or stupidity. When you compare the cartridge to a .308 it's sort of mind bending.
I use Outdoor Research, black, velcro front closure. They "stand up" on their own, keep my pants and boots dry. I use them more for rain and wet brush than I do for snow (Oregon). I also like that when I come back to camp, my pants aren't wet and muddy and I can hang the gaiters over the fire...

Here's a glamor shot of my 1955 Model 94 on a relaxed evening hunt for blacktail on Oregon. I sat on the hill till dark and only put a scare into a doe that was surprised to find me in her pasture.
My daughter and I in the Ochoco's in Central Oregon. She sprung it and it ran past me... I much would have preferred the opposite. I used a Kimber Montana .308 with an Ultralight Leupold (5lb 12 oz perfection). She's using my Model 70 Stainless Featherweight CRF in 6.5 Swede, Leupold. I...
Here's my first bull, in the Diamond Peak Wilderness in Oregon, 2 miles up and in. I was shooting a M70 .338WM, Leupold on QR mounts. Then here's my "last" bull in the Wallowa Mts. Kimber Montana 300wsm, Leupold. My rifles are getting lighter as I get older.
