    Drag or Pack Out?

I will never drag anything again! Packing out a deer on your back is always easier. Pack it all.

Titanium stove & Teepee tent questions

Something that nobody is commenting on is, Teepee placement. I run that exact set up. and one thing to realize is no matter how well you think you did getting the walls low to the ground, the wind will find its way in. Pick your spot well, which we thought we did, down in a low spot in the...

Rifle Elk Caliber and Bullet Choice for 2023

What I'm getting from all this is, it's the craftsman not the tool. Familiarity and skill is key. Great work and good shooting everyone!!

    EOY ‘23 - What Worked, What Didn’t?

I went from a synthetic bag to the down, so right there the packability was night and day. I really loved how around the shoulder area the bag was a bit wider to accommodate movement through the night. Never had any problem with the bag poofing back up after removing it from the pack, it kept...

Rifle Elk Caliber and Bullet Choice for 2023

This year was my Seekins Precision Ph2 in 300wm with a 200 grain terminal accent- Montana To be fair, its my new rifle and I used it to shoot all my animals this year. Deer, antelope and elk.

    EOY ‘23 - What Worked, What Didn’t?

We did a lot of backpack hunting this year in Montana, so some of my choices may differ from other people with us going so minimalist. But I had a few pieces of what I thought was a must have on probably any hunt. 1: Stone Glacier 15 Degree Down Sleeping Bag. Warm, comfortable and very light...

    Rangefinder Recommendations

Me and my hunting partner have both been using a SIG BDX for the last couple years and have had relatively no issues at all. Its accurately ranged game and targets up to 600+ yards with the correct dial adjustments (not using the bdx scope) . Not sure what distances you are trying to range, but...

MT District 302 lost Archery Elk found - Medicine Lodge

My hunting partner shot a bull this year with an expandable broadhead stuck in the spine. It looked as if it had been in there a while, the right brow tines were deformed and a lot smaller than the left ones. It looked to completely healed with no damaged back straps in that area. These animals...

Federal Premium 200gr Terminal Ascents 300WM - Can anyone give me a review?

We spend a lot of time at the range in the off season, with a few different rifles. Sometimes you can't get closer and need to make the most out of the situation you are given. 580yrds is definitely my best shot on an animal. But a nine mile pack out is no joke.

Federal Premium 200gr Terminal Ascents 300WM - Can anyone give me a review?

The terminal Ascents held a much better group than the eldx. I was hitting clay pigeons at 430 yards first day I had the seekins out at the range. the rifle does have a 1/10 twist, which for a 200 grain bullet is just right.

Argali Rincon 2P Tent: please share your experiances!

I was on the fence about getting the 2 man or 4 man. I chose the 4 man, and I'm really glad i did. We ran it with and without the insert for pretty much all of the 2023 season. We drew a couple of alpine mule tags here in Montana, so we back packed all season. For two people it was much more...

    What tent to buy

I got the 4 man Argali tent with a stove and i was very surprised hot quickly and warm it kept the tent. You will need to keep a small pile of fire wood close by to keep it going all night, small price to pay if the night warrants it.

    Higher R value pad

We didn't have cots or a big tent this year, we were backpacking with a floorless tent. I purchased the thermarest xtherm NXT that has a 7.3 R-value and i stayed very warm paired with a 15 degree stone glacier bag. I had absolutely no problem being right on the ground. my hunting partner had the...

    Binos vs. Riflescope

Binoculars without question. Good glass to properly identify what you are looking at is both ethical and safe. And it is what you will spend the most time looking through, and it really helps with eye strain.
