I'm in your boat. I'm new, I haven't even bought a compound bow yet... in fact, in Montana, I'm required to have a bow safety course. So, I took the online course, and I have a field day next Saturday. I might buy a compound this summer, but unless I draw for Cow Elk on Archery, I will just...
I'm looking for like minded individuals to go hunting/hiking/fishing with. I'm in Culbertson, so closer to that the better. the problem is, I'm out of shape and I'm trying to change that. And by that, I mean I'm morbidly obese.. I've got to change this, not only for me, but for my kids.
Anyone...
My first year actually applying for this. I've got the equipment and have been ready to do it, just never had the time. I'm going to make time, this year.
Who else is going ?
Thank you guys for your replies! I'm glad I'm not alone on the Oops train. I'm also thankful for a community willing to talk about these things so that we can all learn from mistakes and keep each other safe!
Keep it coming!
I was just thinking today about some past hunting experiences and I thought I would reach out for some comfort of the guilt that I still carry, although a good teaching experience, it still haunts me to how much worse it could've gone.
So, my "oops" moment, was the first year I ever hunted...
It's rechambered to a .25-06AI from a .257 ROBERTS. According to what it looks like, I've been shooting 25.06 rounds through it and taking deer with it yearly since I found it. But, I'm going to take it to a gunsmith to get this all checked out to be safe. It's an interesting piece!
Seems to have got some rust action going on, I left it in my pickup during hunting season this year and it got relatively cold. Looks like I've got some work to do. You can see the serial here and the bolt as requested. Thank you all for the help!
So... you guys intrigued me to look closer... and I just discovered something either very sad, or very good, I haven't decided which yet.. I'm leaning on sad... Where I THOUGHT the serial number was "etched" out... was not the serial number at all... after looking at the RIGHT angle.. I was able...
That's kind of what I was thinking, too. I'll try to make out the lettering on the serial number and see what I can come up with.
I've been definitely considering replacing the scope with something newer, since I can see game far better in my binoculars than I can my scope, it's difficult to...
I've heard that it could be the barrel, supposedly it shooting so hot can burn up the rifling? or something to that effect? I could be completely screwing the wording up.. I definitely won't be getting rid of it, like I said above, I only have a Mosin Nagant as my secondary rifle. I've got...
I kind of figured as much, I mean, considering it was free to me, it would all be profit. But, I'll likely never get rid of it. It's a great rig. Plus, my only other option on the table is my Mosin Nagant, and it's rather accurate too... I've removed the iron sites and filed out the rear to put...
Wow. Thanks for all the information guys. Mine is a Winchester Model 70 25-06AI.
I've got a lot of studying to do before I can reload anything but I'm very excited to get going on and it and I appreciate all of the information you have provided. Keep it coming! I love the conversation here...
I thought about that, but I'm intrigued by the AI. The 'rarity' I guess, kind of has a interesting aspect of it. I'll likely buy another hunting rifle, but for now this one is completing it's job as it should.
I wonder how much it would cost to do that, anyway....
Thank you for all the information guys! I've got a lot of studying to do.
I didn't fall into this particular caliber by choice, I guess. I actually found the rifle in an attic of a place my family was renting, we called the landlord and prior tenants and nobody laid claim to it, so I kept it...
