Arbitrary Hunting Goals
I think about this a lot. It should probably be its own thread. Do you stop when it stops being enjoyable? When you reach your “goal”? When your body can’t do it anymore? I think about the last one every time I put in for the goat tag. At some point that becomes plain stupid.- SAJ-99

Montana is years behind WY on migration data too. It wasn't until the first positive CWD test that they started putting more collars on deer. When I talked to the bio he literally said "Almost none of the deer migrated to where we thought they would." -

I would say he is clearly wrong about the cost given the amount of states that do them, but might be correct on the data. Hunters overemphasize harvest. I have even complained a little that FWP overemphasizes harvest in their model. Using past harvest to adjust for future harvest is backwards... -

However, in the last Commissioner meeting here in WA the WFWD made a comment that response rates were still only in 60% range and they didn’t know if they could “penalize” people more into responding. Agree, on opportunity vs quality, speaker literally said "hunters want to have their cake and eat it too". (I would add that they also don't want pay for the cake.) FWP takes a lot of flack, but I doubt no one could manage wildlife in Montana without hearing complaints from 33% of the people... -

King for a day, what would you do?
Every hunting license would cost $1000 and the buyer could get a credit back for volunteer work ($50/hr). Then…a war on cheat grass and knapweed and more controlled burns in areas that need it.- SAJ-99
