Sorry to strike a nerve, not asking for honey holes just how to go about "escouting" hard to get boots on the ground from Virginia. Never elk hunted before and was really just trying to figure out where to start with research. But looks to me like you got a honey hole in there somewhere.
I'm trying to get a plan together for this year and was thinking of trying unit 44 in the 2nd or 3rd rifle season but I am open to suggestions. Does anyone have any input on this unit or suggestions for others?

I've started looking there, their website seems pretty complicated for someone who is just starting to try and plan a hunt haha then again I aint to tech savvy.
I'm trying to plan my first hunt my question is can I put in for a tag in a less popular area of the state and get it while still building preference point toward a better area in the future? Thanks
I'm about 3 hrs from Roanoke in the most southwestern tip of the state. But yea trying to do a Wyoming pronghorn hunt this year if I can make since of the rule book haha
