Elk migration, how long how far overnight
From what I've gathered, bulls migrate down after the cows have left. If you're seeing cows at lower elevations, try gaining some elevation and you may run into more bulls. -

Setting up in the morning or afternoon?
I would say your answer really depends on if your approach will be from above or below the said meadow. If your approach is from below then you should be able to set up on the morning since the thermals would be in your face until 9am or so. If your approach is from above then you should wait... -

How much competition will I weed out? Colorado OTC Archery.
I hiked 8 miles into our drop camp last year and we had guides and horses all over us all week last year. Most of the hiking crowd stopped about 4 miles in. As with any DIY Public land hunt, expect company and learn how to adjust accordingly. Shoot straight! -
