I would shoot whatever you’re comfortable with on a treed cat. It doesn’t take much to kill most cats, so smaller calibers are fine. I used a 7mm08 because it’s what I had ready to go (and because I’m a loyal HTer).
Me too. This slipped off my radar. Appreciative of the reminder. Would really like to hear Big Fin and Mr Lamb speak. We’ll see if I can make it both days. So, are we planning a HT meet up, or what?!
Looks like you and yours have had some great times out there. Appreciate the suggestions -especially the ranger workbook. My boys love that type of activity.
We've decided that we're going to kick off summer with a trip to the Tetons. It's an area that my wife and I have always wanted to visit but never really got into the planning stages due to "life". We're planning on the first week or two of June.
Our boys (5 and 9 years old) are great...
All of those units have rugged areas and easy access areas. However, being OTC, you won’t be alone. You’ll never out-hike a horse and there’s plenty people willing to hike as far as you are. I’ve hunted 13 miles into one of those units and saw several other hunters every day. Beautiful area though.
I have a dog named Boone. Years ago my buddies kid asked me what his middle name was in front of a fair number of people. I spit out “poon” in a moment of wiseassery. He’s been Boone Tang to everyone since that day
Good luck lining that up! Don’t mean to come off like a jerk, but I can’t even imagine what it would take to line that up on a rifle stock. I’d personally be hard pressed to do that on a 2x4 with a drill press🤣.
Just a thought here. Is it possible that you hit some metal inside the stock, which caused that bit to break? Food for thought if you’re drilling another hole.
I would certainly try this first. Keys being lots of release agent everywhere you don’t want the jb weld forever. Get the 24 hour stuff and let it set up properly. Lastly, I’d probably use something larger than the broken shank of the drill bit.
If you have access to a welder, the suggestion...
