I have a recent production SE in 375 H&H. I have owned many Winchesters over the years, and frankly it is the best Winchester I have ever owned or used.
I have had the best results with IMR 3031 in a 30-30 lever rifle. The 150 needs a fairly fast burning powder, so I would think that either IMR 4895 or H 4895 would be better than CFE 223.
I am an old bench rest guy. The vast majority of us clean regularly, but not during a match. I don't know anyone that does not use their rod often, except on internet boards.
Just send it to Douglas (https://www.douglasbarrels.net/fitting-services). They will match your barrel with one of their premium barrels and fit it to your rifle for a very good price. Most of my hunting rifles use their stainless barrels. They do not do bluing in house, but chat with them to...
I only use a turret press for pistol ammunition. I do not like the flex of the turret press when loading for a rifle, to me that is the job of a good solid single stage O press like your Rockchucker. The Rockchucker will do everything.
I have shot bench rest for many years. Most of the fellows that I shoot with use a scope checker. One of the regulars has one with a frozen 36 T that he lends to others. It takes the shooter and wind conditions out of the mix and just tests the scope.
I have seen some guys at the range...
The self professed expert on Rokslide loves Nightforce (sponsered?) products and posts negative things about most other brands. He has devised a drop test that Nightforce will pass that the others will not, but it is not something most fellows would encounter in the real world. I do like...
I think I have hunted #7 on about 6 hunts. Maybe very early in the season some parts of the public access sections would be OK, but later in the season it looks like most of the elk are spending all of their time on the ranches. I would not give up 11 or more points to hunt #7 unless you have...
Leupold scopes seem to fail mostly on internet message boards, but oddly not in hunting camps or at the bench. Of course there are many different levels of Leupold scopes at different price points, and scopes of all ages. With many scopes in the hands of shooters there certainly going to be...
When I first started loading copper I treated it just like traditional bullets for jump. It was frustrating getting a good group, followed by a bad group, with no consistency whatsoever. I finally started giving the much more jump and the problem went away. With some of the loads it seems...
There are good reasons that these tags are leftover. Some large ranches do not allow any hunting. I know of a couple of large ranches that do not allow hunting, or even graze cattle, turning them into "sanctuary ranches" for huge herds of elk late in the season. Elk like to go where there is...
The last time I hunted OTC in Colorado I had some other guy (a complete stranger) in orange with a rifle that just followed me around. He stayed about 150 - 200 yards behind but he simply followed me no matter where I went, rough country, steep country, timber, or open areas. I tried turning...
I would certainly give serious consideration to the Sako 85. Tikka is the budget option from Sako and has many, many very vocal fans. I am not knocking the Tikka at all, for the price it a fine rifle but it is not quite the same overall quality as a Sako 85.
I hope this rifle will see real Africa and not just another South Africa shooting farm. I have been some places that there have been times where I wished I was holding a thumper instead of a .375.
